The Comedy King’s Passing

The Philippines is grieving today as the sad news about the King of Comedy’s passing has been confirmed. I first read this on twitter when people have been posting “RIP” entries, including several related hashtags which flooded my timeline. I was reluctant about it because earlier this morning when I was on my way to work, I heard on the radio that Dolphy was actually doing well. Furthermore, I also heard they were already planning to transfer him from the ICU to a normal room. But unfortunately to everyone’s surprise, ANC confirmed that the King has, you know, gone to meet one’s maker.

It’s definitely a sad news for everyone, especially to his family, friends, and the LEGITIMATE fans who were able to catch the King’s reign. I stress on the legitimate because some people are just trying to get on with the hype just for the sake of being “in”. It’s pretty annoying when they get too exaggerated. You know when they post things like, I’m gonna cry, or just a simple blatant ‘I’m a big fan’ post, it’s like they’ve been supporting him all their lives. But when you ask them simple things about Dolphy, they couldn’t answer a thing.

Just to clarify, I have nothing but respect for the Comedy King. I like his craft, his witty sitcoms, and some of his blockbuster movies. I’m a 2 out of 5 fan; a below average fan, but still a fan. I just hate the fact that people are using this mournful event to gain popularity and stuff, expressing exaggerated remarks on the matter. They act as if they have lost a first degree family member. I speak about the overnight fans who don’t give a damn when Dolphy was still alive, but when the news about his death broke in, they became instant number 1 fans. Isn’t this just ridiculous?

Anyway, may Dolphy rest in peace. Thank you for the smiles you brought to the Filipino people. I’m sure the Lord will be much happier now that He has Dolphy around to crack Him jokes.
