Suikoden 2, All-time favorite

Since it’s raining outside and I’m running out of things to do at home, I thought about sharing my insights about one of the best games i’ve ever played, Suikoden 2. In this entry, I’ll be unleashing my inner geek so please bear with me. lol.

Suikoden 2 is a RPG in the first Playstation console.  It’s a 2-D strategy game where you control a Hero on a third person perspective. You will complete a series of main tasks which are a part of the story, and some side quests that may lengthen your entertainment in the game. Aside from this, you get to collect multiple characters that you may use in battles, each possessing unique skills and abilities that will definitely even out the battles against armies and kings Speaking of battles, one of the best features of this game is the 3 different battle systems – duels, regular battles, and army battles. This basically covers the overall view of the story, both the macro and micro types of confrontations. I like playing the army battles the most. In these parts of the game, you get to control your collected allies in groups of 3. During the clash, both groups contain a pack of men/women/kobolds/soldiers, and they will cross over the opponents side and battle. The number of casualties determines who wins fight. I don’t really know how it works, but I used to press random buttons religiously every encounter, thinking that by doing so I would win the flag. Ridiculous right? haha.

A game wouldn’t be great without a strong backbone, the Plot. Suikoden 2, has the BEST story amongst all the RPG games I’ve played. It has the slickest, illest, closest to perfect storyline across the x, y, and z generation. Well, in short, it’s about two best friends who got separated by fate, separated by opposite duties. They fought their way to become leaders of their own respective countries, both to achieve peace. But to achieve peace, one had to bring the other down. OH! I feel like I’m writing for a movie trailer! This is just awesome!

Ohh, telling you about it just makes me want to play the game again! Lol! I don’t know when exactly it came out in the market, but I think I was able to get a copy in year 2002? I was 12. Here are some photos.

So this photo is the main cover of the game. At the center is the main hero. on his left is his best friend, Jowy, and on his right is his sister, Nanami.

These are the 2 main runes of the story. The hero was given the Bright Shield Rune, while Jowy was given the Black Sword rune. Basically, a yin-yang concept.

I remember seeing a post about this on facebook, and then I said, “This game is a living legend! I will let my children play this in the next 10 years.” I still have this thought about the game. I WILL FOREVER LOVE SUIKODEN 2. Thank you, Konami!
